I have taught in back yards, run a university dance program, led retreats, and presented workshops at music festivals and at academic conferences. I have performed on stages and moved my body openly while waiting in airports. In each of these contexts the word dance has had different meanings.
For me dance is the art, play, and experience of moving with feeling.
You may be terrified of the very word ‘dance’ or you may be a professional dancer. I aim to bring you together—humans with bodies—in an experience of wholeness and communion. I dream of a retreat that I call ‘The Experience’ in which we use somatic movement practices, dance, community sharing circles, and physical connection with each other as a ceremonial container for connection with the divine, however we define that in our individual beings. Somatic inquiry, whether in line at the grocery store, at yoga class, at an ecstatic dance, or in a university dance program, revolves around one’s experience of having and being a body. You are hereby invited to ‘The Experience’. Please join my email list to stay informed!
I offer SomaWorks group movement and dance classes in and outside of Boise. These classes have different names and focus on different things, yet they are all presented from the central philosophies of the Spirit Dance. Please check out the SomaWorks events calendar for current offerings, and reach out if you have questions or would like to speak about what I could bring to your community.
I am an improvisor. Improvisation is a practice of trust, of radical presence, and of delving into the ecstatic, tender, sometimes uncomfortable experience of vitality. I share the central philosophies of the Spirit Dance with you in order that we might find common ground, drop our guards, and have meaningful experiences together.
