BraveSpace New Year’s Playshop: Mycelium Consciousness
The group field of dance is a network consciousness—our bodies connected in space generates a place of power. The mycelium network of fungi is an apt metaphor for how we are when dancing together–a co-created sensory motion experience. The mycelium is the bulk of the fungal organism; mushrooms are on occasion their fruit. We will develop greater flow and articulation in our bodies individually and together through yoga, contact improvisation, movement meditation, bodywork, and fungal in-formation. We will each be initiated into the New Year connected in mycelium consciousness, supported to discover the next mysteries of our individual journeys.
The playshop will begin with an evening 7pm session on Thursday Dec. 30th, and conclude on Sunday Jan. 2nd by 2pm. It will take place at SomaWorks Studio, 750 E. Warm Springs Studio D. Housing can be worked out for out-of-town participants among those of us who live here (monetary donations suggested).
Leah Nelson (Not related, but awesome last name, right?) will be teaching Contact Improvisation with me through the playshop. My focus tends to be social/relational and hers is more physical/technical. I’m excited to layer material together! Her bio is below.
$300 for the workshop cost does not include the collaborative food opportunities we will co-create.
Text or call me at (208)985-0331 to sign up. Open to 15 participants.
Our guest teacher:
Leah Nelson is a dancer, bodyworker, teacher, mom, gardener, Homeopath, and student of life. She resides in Salt Lake and can be found often at ecstatic dance trying to trick herself into making unfamiliar choices. She loves the meditative, fully present moment that Contact allows, and she continues to challenge herself (and her unsuspecting partners) to uncover something new in how she and they move.
In her previous NY life she performed with many choreographers and made her own work. She has enjoyed teaching CI (to professional dancers and budding dancers) for over 10 years. CI provides so many gems that transfer over in how we relate in life!
In her classes Leah often explores: Making friends with the floor, tools for safer lifting and weight sharing, and guidance to explore your internal compass while dancing with another.
