Contact Improvisation is a dance form that grew out of modern dance in the 1970’s in which we move while touching without knowing what’s coming next.  We make it up together by moving and listening with our bodies.  Just as with language, it helps a lot to know what the possibilities are–to develop a vocabulary with which we may converse.  This series is a follow up to the last one, and will also be available to help introduce new participants.  Here’s our essential curriculum:

  1. Practice patterns of total body connectivity:  We’ll drill fundamental patterns of movement.
  2. Practice weight sharing:  We’ll connect to support through each other.
  3. Practice non-ordinary states of gravity:  We’ll get upside down, inside out, and maybe backwards.
  4. Practice spatial clarity:  We’ll get oriented.
  5. Practice sensory awareness:  We’ll listen with our bodies.
  6. Practice contact improvisation:  We’ll dance together and reflect on it.

The series will consist of 3 classes.  Let’s be real…about 25% of people ever make it to all classes of series.  If you can make 2 that’s pretty good.  It’s a practice.  While we’ll learn different things each time, everything repeats.

The price for the series is $60.  If you want to come to the first class for $30 and find out if it’s for you just reach out personally.  This is not a beginner series, and yet beginners are welcome. If you want an intro that includes more of the interpersonal consent aspects of contact, that’s BraveSpace.

We will meet 7-9pm on Thursdays April 20, May 4th, and May 18th at SomaWorks Studio.

There are 14 spots available.
