Your Body Has Endless Wisdom

Feel more comfortable. Have more awareness. Create clearer boundaries that you can bring into everyday life.

Body Conversations is a one hour virtual, worry free, non-judgmental space to speak from, listen to and converse about our bodies.

Hello, I’m Matthew.

I’ve spent my life exploring my relationship with my body, at times deeply frustrated that my body has refused to do what I’ve asked of it. I’ve come to understand that the most important thing I can do is to recognize my body as a person and enter into respectful, compassionate conversations with the many parts of myself. I’ve also witnessed the incredible power of community and seen how much I grow by sharing with others. I am here because I feel most alive in community, and sharing my love for our bodies–in any form–is my favorite thing to do. You are invited to a conversation.

We begin Body Conversations with a short guided meditation to slow us down and bring us together.

You are then guided through each step of the Body Conversations process, sharing stories and emotions when you like as we explore our relationship with our bodies.

We don’t fix each other, we may find solace or even solutions by sharing or listening to the stories of others. All topics are acceptable.

We honor all stories with compassion and confidentiality. You are welcome exactly as you are. There are no other requirements or preconditions.

You may be thinking:

What are your qualifications?
I have been studying somatics for 25 years, engaging movement and awareness as medicine for myself and others. I have an MFA in Dance from the University of Utah, certifications in Massage, Pilates, and Laban Movement Analysis, and am completing a 3-year Mystery School with Dr. Ann Marie Chiasson. After teaching full-time at the university level for 4 years I moved into the private sector almost 10 years ago. I have published academically, presented and taught at international conferences, and am deeply grateful for the trust and support of my community in Boise.
Will I have to talk or be seen?
You can just listen if you like. In the group context others’ stories often bring us what we need. There is also great value for others in being witnessed by someone. Video is encouraged but not required.
Will there be a movement practice?
This is just a conversation. You are welcome to move if that makes you more comfortable. For example you may go for a walk and wear earbuds if you like, or lay on the ground. There will be a short meditation.
Do I need privacy?
Privacy is recommended but not required. If others are present please use headphones so that other participants’ stories are kept confidential.
How is this different from my therapist?
We will not be diagnosing or treating any conditions. We will not be fixing anything. This group is offered so that we may acknowledge and learn from our own and each other’s stories with compassion.
What if I become triggered or overwhelmed?
The most powerful thing you can do is let us know so that we can pause and feel it together. You may also take a break or leave the group if needed.
Is this only available online?
Body Conversations is only offered online, but one-on-one sessions with Matthew and group BraveSpace workshops are offered in person.
Bonus
As an added bonus when you sign up for Body Conversations you will be sent a free heart center and somatic flow meditation video. This video is an excellent place to start your somatic journey.
